Banks will remain open on coming Saturday and Sunday to deal with the rush of people expected to queue up at branches to exchange their old currency notes of 500 and 1,000 rupees which are now invalid.
Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das in a tweet said that banks will remain open during both days for public convenience. RBI in a statement also said, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks including public and private will remain open for public on Saturday and Sunday.
Banks are advised to keep all their branches open on 12th and 13th of November as regular working days for transacting all business.
Employees of the State Bank Of India had set up exchange counters and to remain open till 6 pm on Thursday.
Kotak Mahindra bank also opened exchange counters to help people exchange their old high definition notes.
ICICI Bank opened additional exchange counters across the country and extended work hours by 2 hours to ensure non of its customers face problems while exchanging their money.
All ATM transactions were waived off till December 31, 2016 and the daily usage limit of credit cards was doubled to benefit customers.
