Did senior Congress leader and former union minister S Jaipal Reddy offered to sacrifice the Chief Minister’s post to Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao?
Well, that is what Jaipal has claimed. In an interview to a news channel, Jaipal said soon after the formation of Telangana, KCR agreed to merge the TRS with the Congress.
“He came to me and told me that I would be the first chief minister of Telangana. I said that I had no such interest and told him to take the CM post, since he had already set up a shop in the name of Telangana. I would be happy to become the PCC president,” Jaipal said.
The veteran leader had apparently suspected something fishy in KCR’s comments. May be KCR was of the view that Jaipal might be the only obstacle for him to become the chief minister. To clear his doubt, KCR asked Jaipal whether he was interested to become the CM. When Jaipal said no, the line for KCR has been cleared.
However, Congress president Sonia Gandhi did not offer the CM post to KCR, because of the objection from other aspirants from her own party, particularly K Jana Reddy and also AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh.
Had they agreed to making KCR as the CM, the TRS would have been merged with the Congress and it would have been a different chapter in the Telangana!
