Mamata Banerjee thanks people for success in West Bengal bypolls

Mamata BanerjeeAs the Trinamool Congress won bypoll in Krishnaganj assembly seat and took a massive lead in Bongaon Lok Sabha constituency, party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to thank the people of the state.

“We are grateful to Maa, Mati, Manush (mother, land, people) for again giving us their trust and love with this big win. We will continue to work for them,” she tweeted.

The Trinamool Congress chief also used the opportunity to thank the Election Commission (EC) for ensuring peaceful elections where voters could express themselves freely, reported IANS.

Giving a tough fight to CPI-M’s Apurba Biswas, Trinamool candidate Satyajit Biswas secured 95,397 votes and won by around 40,000 votes. The former got 58,398 votes.

The seat in the Nadia district had become vacant due to the death of Trinamool lawmaker Sushil Biswas.

The TMC was also reported to be ahead in Bongan(SC) Lok Sabha seat after initial rounds of counting. Trinamool candidate Mamatabala Thakur took a massive lead over her nearest BJP rival Subrata Saha by 84,000 votes after seventh round of counting, reported PTI.

The Bongaon seat fell vacant after the death of Trinamool Congress member Kapil Krishna Thakur on October 13 last year. His wife Mamatabala Thakur was nominated by TMC to contest the bypoll.
