Moto G (3rd Gen) launched in India

Motorola has launched the 3rd gen Moto G at an event in New Delhi. The 1GB RAM / 8GB storage variant of the Moto G will sell for Rs 11,999 whereas the 2GB RAM / 16GB variant of the device will sell at Rs 12,999. The phone will start selling exclusively on Flipkart.

The Moto G comes with a 5-inch HD display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It will sport the Android 5.1.1 OS along with proprietary Motorola features such as Moto Display, Quick Capture and Chop Twice. The phone will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor. This will be paired with 1GB of RAM for the 8GB storage variant and 2GB RAM for the 16GB storage variant.

On the camera front, you will get a 13MP rear snapper along with a 5MP front-facing camera. The Moto G will come in the dual SIM configuration and will support 4G SIM cards as well. A 2,470mAh capacity battery completes the package.

The 3rd gen Moto G will also feature IPx7 certification which makes the phone water resistant in up to 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The phone will come the black and white variants, but Motorola will let you select from a range of colorful snap-on covers.

The removable back cover of the phone now sports a ribbed texture (diagonally)that improves the grip and aids ergonomics. The phone feels solid and durable, and we did not notice any wobbles or squeaks. Removing the cover reveals the two micro-sim slots, a microSD card slot and a sealed battery. Just like the original Moto G, the third-gen version is customisable with its optional, multi-coloured back panels.

The back now features a metallic strip that houses the 13MP camera, a new dual-LED flash and the indented Motorola logo. The strip gives the phone a slightly fancy look. The third-generation Moto G is a great budget smartphone combining upgraded hardware and smooth performance. The improved camera makes the device one of the best camera phones in this price range. 4G connectivity is now standard but more RAM makes multitasking a breeze.
