Rising Pune Supergiants Change Their Name

Pune Supergaints

The Pune franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is not leaving any stone unturned and is doing every possible attempt to put up the best show in the 10th edition of the tournament, programmed to begin from April 5. Pune selected a lot of fresh faces in the auction last month and came out with a major arrangement of dismissing MS Dhoni as skipper and giving the charge to Australia’s skipper Steve Smith. Now, in another step to change the franchise’s fortunes, they have replaced its name from Rising Pune Supergiants to ‘Rising Pune Supergiant’.
Still, the change has got nothing to do with superstitions, they say. “There is no superstition behind naming ourselves Supergiant now,” the team’s spokesperson told.
“Last year we were seeing at four to five players in the team who had super giant abilities. While we were planning for this IPL, we assumed why just a few players, the entire team is Supergiant. So, that is why we chose to go with Supergiant this time,” the spokesperson added.
In the early edition, Pune just succeeded to win five games and lost nine games to finish at number seven spot.
In 2016, they lost the services of Mitchell Marsh, Kevin Pietersen, and Faf du Plessis during the crucial stage of the tournament as they were ruled out due to wounds.
After their poor performance in the last season, they released Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma, Murugan Ashwin, Pietersen, Thisara Perera, RP Singh, Scott Boland, Saurabh Tiwary, George Bailey and Albie Morkel.
The Pune franchise will start its campaign against Mumbai Indians on April 6.
