Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders have decided to undertake tours in the districts to study drought conditions from April 19 to 26. After the visit of drought-affected districts, the party would prepare a report that would be submitted to district collectors, the State and Central governments, said party leaders Kothakota Dayakar Reddy, Durgaprasad and Omteru Pratap Reddy at a joint press conference here.
They said 27 party leaders would form separate teams consisting of three members each and visit the districts to assess the losses due to severe drought prevailing in the State. They said the Centre was waiting for a report from the State government, whereas the State government was blaming the NDA government, stating that it had not given any financial assistant to deal with the drought situation.
The Chief Minister Special Development Fund was created with Rs 4,800 crore which was first of kind with such a huge amount, they said and suggested that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao could help the farmers by extending financial help from this fund.
Accusing the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government of failure to take preventive measures to deal with severe drought situation in the State, Dayakar Reddy said 50 per cent crop had been damaged due to drought. The neighboring Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh had taken steps to deal with drought situation, but the TRS government was saying that the Centre had not given any fund to meet the situation, they alleged.
Durga Prasad said about 150 persons died due to sunstroke across the State. But the government was not able to confirm these deaths. He asked the government to open summer camps and supply buttermilk sachets and glucose packets to people in the areas which were affected badly.
Another TDP leader Pratap Reddy alleged that Chandrashekar Rao was showing ‘Mayabazar’ film to the public. If Opposition questioned the functioning of the government, the ruling party leaders claimed that people were in their favour and supported the government, he said, and warned that people would teach a lesson to the TRS in coming days.
