Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao moved the condolence motions for both the departed leaders and the House adopted them unanimously.
Moving the motion condoling the death of Kalam, Rao said the state government had requested the Centre to name DRDL, where he worked for over a decade, after the late President.
Seconding the motion, Opposition leader K Jana Reddy recalled the invaluable contributions made by Kalam in the field of defence research. YSRC MLA Payam Venkateswarlu wanted the state government to name Hyderabad Metro Rail after Kalam. TDP’s E Dayakar Rao recalled that it was TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu who supported the candidature of Kalam for President’s post.
Finance minister E Rajender said that Kalam helped the poor by preparing light weight callipers for polio-affected people and stents for heart patients for lesser prices. DAYAKAR’S SLIP: While condoling the death of APJ Abdul Kalam, Dayakar Rao wished that Kalam should take rebirth in Andhra Pradesh. Reacting to this, minister T Harish Rao wondered where was AP now.
Dayakar Rao said that Andhra Pradesh means the United AP and wished that Kalam should take rebirth in any Telugu-speaking state. Later, he amended and wished that Kalam should be born again in Telangana state. TRS MLC Bodakunti Venkateswarlu described Kalam as the prime minister.
While condoling the death of four-time MLA Patolla Kista Reddy, the Congress MLAs said that a family member of Reddy be elected without contest in the bypoll to be held for Narayankhed constituency.
Congress MLA DK Aruna said that Kista Reddy’s elder son who was currently MPP of Narayanakhed should be made MLA unanimously. Congress member T Jeevan Reddy too supported this.

Council Mourns Kalam as TRS, Cong Shadow BOX
It is said that opportunities are created but do not occur. And who knows this better than our politicians? For, they diligently use the most inopportune of the times to needle their political opponents. The first day of the monsoon session of the Telangana Legislative Council on Wednesday was a solemn occasion to mourn the demise of former president late APJ Abdul Kalam.
There was no scope for the usual slanging match between the treasury and opposition benches. Yet, TRS member Paturi Sudhakar Reddy, while mourning for Kalam, offered a piece of unsolicited advice to the opposition. “Kalam was a visionary, leader and, above all, teacher. He conducted his public life with dignity. He expected everyone of us to do so.
If we are to pay real tribute to him, let the opposition support the government and allow this House to function smoothly. Conduct yourself with dignity and that would be a real tribute to the Missile Man,” he said leaving the Congress members squirm restlessly in their seats. Congress legislator MS Prabhakar, who then took the mike, hit back at the TRS MLA without sullying the solemnity of the moment.
Paying his tributes, Prabhakar said: “Never has India seen a leader like Kalam. He always thought about the poor and the downtrodden. The ruling parties and governments should remember that Kalam wanted them to work for uplifting the society and empowering everyone.
He believed in healthy democracy where opposition can voice people’s issues. That is the real tribute we can pay to him.” The condolence, which turned into a shadow- boxing of sorts between the opposition and ruling party threw the House into laughter.
