TV actress gets three-year jail in forgery case

TV actress Indu Verma was sentenced to three years imprisonment in a forgery case. The 42-year-old actress was convicted for misappropriating the cheques of her previous employer Thomas Cook India Private Limited. Verma guilty of cheating, forgery, impersonating and misappropriation of cheques

She had allegedly forged the cheques in 1996 and made purchases of jewellery worth Rs 17.50 lakhs. According to the prosecution, Verma, impersonated as Shivani Arora and purchased jewellery worth approximately Rs.17.50 lakh from a shop between September 6, 1996, and October 3, 1996, by using forged cheques pertaining to her then employer.

Upon the request court suspended Verma’s sentence for a month to enable her to file appeal.
