NEW DELHI: Demanding rollback of demonetisation, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee pledged to remove Prime Minster Narendra Modi from politics. “Today, I am taking a pledge, whether I die or live I will remove PM Modi from Indian politics,” she said while addressing a Trinamool Congress rally which was organised to protest demonetisation in Kolkata today.
Mamata also criticised the government for “acting like God” and said, “Bazaar, cinema, Jatra (theatre) – everything got affected, but he (the Prime Minister) didn’t care about common people.”
The countrywide strike today was ‘called’ by the opposition parties to protest demonetisation. The government’s call to ban higher-denomination currency has invited sharp criticism from a united opposition.
