On Thursday in New Delhi, P.M Narendra Modi announced that women do not have to change their names anymore on their passports after marriage.
“Women need not submit marriage/divorce certificate for a passport. They are allowed to use father/mother’s name in passport,” as their wish. Prime Minister Modi said while speaking the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Indian Merchant Chambers ladies wing, total video conversation.
The Prime Minister also praised the participation of women of the nation towards the growth of the country, said they have potential and are getting better day by day.
“The contribution of women is remarkable. Women of our country have the potential and they attempt hard for success in their profession,” he added.
Modi said that the BJP government has started a number of projects to empower the women as they want them to shine.
“About 70% people who have got loans under Mudra Yojana are women and they contribute the most in the dairy and animal husbandry sector. When women earn money, they feel empowered,” he said.
