Visakhapatnam: The peaceful agitation taken up by the YSRCP demanding a separate railway zone for Visakhapatnam with the cooperation of all likeminded political parties, voluntary organisations, intellectuals and student organisations will continue with the inspiration of B R Ambedkar till the demand was met, said party senior leader Botcha Satyanarayana.
Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Satyanarayana said though the party is in the Opposition, it took up the agitation on behalf of public as the ruling TDP has failed in securing the railway zone. He found fault with the government for forcible shifting of party district president Gudivada Amarnath, who was observing indefinite fast, to the KGH.
He alleged that the TDP government could only spoil the fast, but never suppress the demand of north coastal Andhra people for a separate railway zone. He informed that a candle rally will be taken out from Gandhi statue near the GVMC to B R Ambedkar statue on April 23 and stage protests at all the government offices on May 2 as part of the agitation.
To a query, he said that fight for the rail zone is not to get political mileage, but to stand as the people’s party. District party president Gudivada Amarnath, Paderu MLA Giddi Eswari, ex-MLAs Malla Vijay Prasad, Tynala Vijay Kumar and Mahila wing leader P Usha Kiran were also present.
